Are you ready to party for St. Patty’s Day? Then plan on coming by Coco’s on Saturday, March 14th and hear some fun, upbeat Irish, East Coast and Celtic music by the Riverthieves AND local talent, Meghan Patrick!
These guys promise an evening of good times – Canadian party-folk style. They say on their website, “Despite the occasional nod to Ireland or the UK, an evening with the Riverthieves is a journey of Canadian songwriting.”
On this night, we’ll be featuring the three original members of the band, Chris, Sal and Finley. Joining them will be Matt Dickson on drums and our very own local Irish-descendant entertainer, Meghan Patrick on fiddle.
Here are their Bios:
Born out of the Wiskey Dollies, first performed as a trio in the spring of 2003 with Finley Mullally on mandolin, bodhran and vocals; Chris Knowles on guitar and vocals; and Sal De Meo on bass and back-up vocals.
By December of that same year, Shanthi Minor joined the group adding fiddle to the celtic/folk flavour of the band. In February 2005, Riverthieves introduced pennywhistle and bagpipes to their mix with Devon Matsalla. By the fall of 2006, the band rounded out their sound with accomplished drummer Terry Kittmer.
In 2010, Evan Lewis and Meghan Patrick joined the goup as the band’s new filddle players.
Meghan started stepdancing when she was 5 to her grandfather’s fiddle every Sunday for family dinners. Her entire family is entrenched in old Time fiddle, square dancing and country music. Growing up, she could always be found around some kind of musical event.
She started playing fiddle at the age of 10 and has been performing St. Patrick’s Day around the Valley since the age of 5. Meghan took a short break from fiddling and dancing when she moved for school, got married (to a Renfrew man!) and became a mom of two girls, Maya and Arleigh.
She and her family have since moved back to the valley where she re-entered the entertainment biz by playing with the Renfrew County Fiddlers and entertaining at seniors homes. Meghan loves playing with different musicians on a part-time basis, and has been playing with the Riverthieves for the last five years.
Come out to Coco’s on the Saturday before St. Patrick’s Day to hear this group’s Canadian party-folk music! You’re more than welcome to arrive early to grab your seat and enjoy our Irish-inspired food and drink menus.
(Special Note: there is a $10 cover charge at the door to pay for the entertainment.)
